Waikiki Beach and Parks
Duke Kahanamoku Beach
Located at Waikiki's western edge, Duke Kahanamoku Beach is the widest in Waikiki, perfect for families and those looking to have some fun in the sun. Named after Hawaii's legendary surfer and Olympic swimming champion, this beach, and the adjacent lagoon is popular for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and sailing.
Fort DeRussy Beach Park
As the largest beach in Waikiki, Fort DeRussy Beach Park spans 71 acres filled with fun amenities open to the public. Once a military base, visitors can have a picnic in the beautiful grassy park, work on perfecting a golden tan or play some volleyball and tennis in between ocean dips.
Waikiki Beach
Also known as Royal Hawaiian Beach, the beach center is a great spot to rent beach gear, take a surf lesson, catch a Catamaran ride or paddle out on a Hawaiian outrigger canoe. Located just behind the Waikiki Police Substation, the beach center also has public bathrooms and food concession stands.
Prince Kuhio Beach
A popular bodyboarding spot, this small and narrow beach on the south shore offers great snorkeling opportunities. The beach is protected from wave action by an offshore reef with two back-to-back concrete walls that stretch about 40 yards into the ocean, perfect for kids looking to swim freely.
Kapiolani Park
Located just after the Kuhio Ponds near the very southeast end of Waikiki, Kapiolani Park Beach offers sunbather's a beautiful stretch of sand and a great launching spot for surfers and boarders. Also known as Queen's Beach, it's also home to the first 1,000-foot outdoor movie screen for movie nights under the stars.
San Souci Kaimana Beach
The most southern of Waikiki beaches is the most kid-friendly and features a flat bar of reef about 50 yards in, perfect for snorkeling. San Souci Beach is also a haven for swimmers, kayakers and surfers due to the natural ocean current located on the left side of the reef and beach.
