Top 10: Iconic Must-Dos in Waikiki

At Embassy Suites by Hilton Waikiki Beach Walk, we are in the heart of all the action. Located just steps from famous surf breaks, hikes, and attractions, you can experience all that Waikiki has to offer from your home away from home here. First-time visitors and long-time Hawai‘i fans will want to check off these not-to-miss sights. As the saying goes, "When in Waikiki!"

#1. Hike Diamond Head
For stunning views over Waikiki, hike the 0.8-mile trail to the summit of the dormant volcanic crater. Heads-up: you'll need to make a reservation for access.

#2. Learn to Surf
Book a lesson with the knowledgeable beach boys at Big Wave Dave Surf & Coffee, located in our lobby. They'll teach you the sport in the birthplace of modern surfing, as well as provide insights on Hawaiian culture and ocean safety.

#3. Shop at KCC Farmers' Market
Browse exotic tropical fruits, snack on local treats, and stock up on artisanal souvenirs at this large outdoor farmers' market, open every Saturday morning from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

#4. Watch a Hula Performance
Admire this traditional Hawaiian storytelling dance right in front of the hotel at Waikiki Beach Walk. Kū Haʻaheo, a free concert features live Hawaiian music and hula every Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

#5. Chow down on a Plate Lunch
You didn't really visit Waikiki until you've tasted the local classic meal, a plate lunch. Choose a protein (think: teriyaki chicken or fried chicken katsu), two scoops of white rice, and macaroni salad loaded with plenty of mayo. You'll find casual versions at local mom & pop diners or elevated takes at fine dining establishments.

#6. Visit the Honolulu Zoo
Learn about native species like the nene (Hawaiian Goose), as well as those from the African Savanna, Asia, and beyond at the Honolulu Zoo. Make sure to say "hi" to the elephants, giraffes, and new baby rhino, ‘Akamu!

#7. Eat Shave Ice
This cool, colorful dessert is a staple in Hawai‘i. Choose your own flavors or order the classic "rainbow shave ice" with strawberry, vanilla, and banana syrups. Take it next level with mochi or condensed milk toppings.

#8. Stroll down Kalakaua Avenue
Take in the sights and sounds of Waikiki as you walk down its main thoroughfare. Shop at high-end luxury retailers, watch street performers, and visit the statue of Duke Kahanamoku, a legendary waterman and ambassador of aloha.

#9. Wander at the Waikiki Aquarium
View the color-changing sea horses, camouflage fish and mesmerizing moon jellies at the second oldest aquarium in the United States. Kids will love the predator tank, home to sharks and gigantic groupers. Hot tip: Embassy Suites Waikiki guests receive complimentary youth entrance per paid adult!

#10. Sail into the Sunset
Celebrate the end of the day in paradise aboard Holokai Catamaran. Watch the sun sink below the horizon while sipping on Mai Tai cocktails and admiring the view looking back on the Waikiki skyline.
