Stay & Play: The Ultimate Family Fun Itinerary in Waikiki

Waikiki will WOW young and old with its turquoise water, golden sands and laid-back culture. Whether your ‘ohana (‘family' in Hawaiian) likes to build sandcastles on the beach all day or hike to the summit of Le‘ahi (Diamond Head) for a top-of-the-world feeling, this vacation hot spot is suited for travel with kids in tow. We've created a 48-hour fail-proof itinerary to make the most of every minute in paradise creating memories together.

Day 1

Interior of rooms at Embassy Suites Waikiki

Check In – Do your family a favor by booking the Stay and Play Package at Embassy Suites Waikiki which includes suite accommodations and beach essentials to experience this famous shoreline to the max. You'll receive a two-day rental of beach gear with two sand chairs, an umbrella, a mask and snorkel set or boogie board. Upon arrival to your one- or two-bedroom suite, the kids will love calling dibs on their sleeping quarters, and parents will appreciate the living room with extra space to relax and spread out. Plus, a microwave and a mini fridge in the suite allow for snack time, anytime.

Beach Time – After a quick change into your swimsuits, walk the 100 steps to Waikiki Beach and get outfitted with all your beach gear at Honolulu Surf Club. Lounge under the umbrella while your kids test out the gentle waves via boogie board, followed by a sandcastle building contest and races along the 2-mile stretch of sand.

Drinks at Embassy Suites Waikiki

Sunset – Back at the hotel, it's cocktail time! Embassy Suites Waikiki celebrates the sunset each day with a complimentary evening reception for guests. Sip on Mai Tai cocktails (and tropical juices!) and light snacks poolside on the lush landscaped Grand Lanai. Toast to the sun dropping below the horizon and look out for the elusive ‘green flash.'

Day 2

Food at Embassy Suites Waikiki

Breakfast – Head down to the breakfast bar for a complimentary spread. The beauty of this buffet is that everyone in the family can have their favorites (and mom doesn't have to cook!) from made-to-order omelets, pancakes, pastries and fruit.

Snorkeling – With your mask and snorkel from Honolulu Surf Club, venture out in the shallow waters of Waikiki to say ‘aloha' to the local marine life. Look out for vibrant parrotfish, yellow tang, and the state fish of Hawai‘i, the Humuhumunukunukuapua‘a. It is also common to spot Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles and Monk Seals - just be sure to keep your distance as these endangered species are protected.

Swimming Pool at Embassy Suites Waikiki

Pool Time – Return to Embassy Suites to soak in the warm Hawaiian sun on the Grand Lanai. With a heated outdoor pool, children's pool and hot tub, each family member can pick their experience. Consider renting a private daybed or cabana to elevate your afternoon and act as home base for your crew. Or, maybe mom just wants to sip on a piña colada in peace.

Movie Night – After a full day of fun in the sun, cuddle up on the sofa in your suite's living room with take-out pizza from Giovanni Pastrami across the street and the latest flick on the flat-screen TV. Tip: try the Kalua Pig Supreme topped with local favorites, Kalua pork and Portuguese sausage. Aloha and sweet dreams!
