Namaste: Greet the Day with Sunrise Yoga

One of the many perks of being a guest at Embassy Suites by Hilton Waikiki Beach Walk is the array of complimentary amenities and activities, including yoga. Imagine starting your morning with a restorative session beneath the palm trees, paired with the warm trade wind breeze. Now that sounds like vacation!

Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, a certified RYT500 yoga instructor leads an alfresco class from 7 to 8 a.m. on the fourth floor Grand Lanai pool deck. All ages and abilities are welcome – even first-time yogis! All you have to do is sign up at the front desk.

Meet Junko Tamaoki, one of the experienced instructors who combines Hatha and gentle Vinyasa yoga styles into her class. She has been teaching at the hotel for over three years and loves making the guests feel relaxed and ready for the rest of their day in paradise. We asked her to share some pointers, advice and a little bit about herself:

Why should I do yoga while on vacation?

It helps you recover from jetlag and release tension. Plus, it will make you feel better after too much eating and drinking, which often happens on vacation!

What makes the yoga classes at Embassy Suites unique?

You'll get to experience different yoga styles each session, with three different teachers on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays—myself, Sachi and Yoshi.

What should I expect during the class?

Don't stress, just bring your body, take deep breaths and try each yoga pose.

How will we feel after the class?

Like you have unlimited potential!

What is your favorite yoga pose?

Surya Namaskar (sun salutation)

What are your favorite activities on the island?

I love to stay busy and physically active with Pilates, swimming and golf.
