All About the Ocean: 5 Adventures to Experience Waikiki Beach to the Max

Summer is all about freedom, fun and beach days. With 2 miles of white sand beach, sparkling water and stunning views of iconic Le‘ahi (Diamond Head), Waikiki Beach is the ultimate playground for relaxation and recreation. In fact, known in Hawaiian as "spouting waters," Waikiki was a gathering place for Hawaiian royalty. Check out our must-dos for making the most of your summer getaway in the oasis of Waikiki.

#1: Wake Up to a View

You know it's going to be a great day when you open your eyes in the morning to a view of the Pacific. When you book the Ocean Suite Deal at Embassy Suites Waikiki, you'll receive up to 30% off, no additional resort charge, and tropical mimosas to enjoy on your lanai overlooking Waikiki Beach. Bonus: all of the rooms at the property are suites, so you'll have plenty of space to lounge in your living room and then fall asleep in the bedroom to the sound of the waves at night. And when you are ready to hit the beach, you're only steps away along Waikiki Beach Walk to the water.

#2: Hang Ten

It's said that Waikiki is the birthplace of modern surfing. Try out this classic Hawaiian sport with a surf lesson from Big Wave Dave located in the Embassy Suites Waikiki lobby. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned surfer, the staff at Big Wave Dave will give you an experience to remember in the warm waters of Waikiki and have you standing up on a wave in no time. You'll be stoked to learn proper surfing form, technique and etiquette to ride the waves in style.

#3: Dive Deep

Check out Waikiki's waters below the surface with a submarine adventure. You'll descend 100 feet below the surface in the waters off Waikiki Beach. Peek out of portholes to get up close and personal with marine life such as green sea turtles, sharks, yellow tang fish and eels. You'll even catch a glimpse of a sunken ship!

#4: Crew a Canoe

Pile your whole family into an outrigger canoe for a wild ride on the waves of Waikiki. Outrigger canoe surfing is a centuries-old Hawaiian tradition that you won't want to miss. Your captain will give you a crew assignment and you'll all work together as a team to paddle hard and catch a wave. In between rides, don't forget to look down into the "aquarium" that is Waikiki. You may see fish turtles or dolphins!

#5: Sail into the Sunset

End the day out on the water with a sail on a catamaran. Embarking directly from the sands of Waikiki Beach, you'll sail out towards Le‘ahi while admiring the view of the Waikiki shoreline and skyline. Sip on a Mai Tai and relax while watching the sun set. Look out for the elusive green flash as the sun slips into the horizon!
